when flying it often makes me realize even more how our God is so amazing! but i often times wonder why i'm afraid to fly, realizing i just began to feel those feelings the last year of my life. I ask why and what causes these feelings. Can anyone help me with this?

I'm not afraid of dying in an airplane crash, I'm afraid of surviving and being hurt. Anyway, I figure the odds are against me by now since I've flown so much already for the airlines. By only recently developing a fear...my guess is the phobia coincides with another life event. Can you look back and see what new or different happened to you at about the same time you noticed a fear of flying? I wish I could help.

I have a fear of flying because I want to know that if I wreck, the paramedics can get to me quickly. Being in the air is the realization that you have no control over your life. In a car wreck there is a chance of survival. Or if there is a malfunction, you can ease off the road. However, in the air you are most certain not to arrive at your earthly destination if something goes wrong. There is not much room for error. Sorry Ms. Camp, hope this doesn't make you more stressful. Just have Ms. Kenette drive you. She can get you there almost as fast....ZOOM! ZOOM!

Try to identify what it is that is making you uncomfortable. Is it the feeling of being confined in a small space? Is it the feeling that other people are sitting on top of you? Is it not being able to see where you are going? Or watching the scenery pass by? Like the poster stated above, is it an immobility issue? Lack of contact with those whom you normally are in close contact with? It may not be a single issue but a smattering of several. Once you identify what it is, then you can proceed to do something about the fear. Sometimes the fear(s) have been there all along but have just recently come to the surface or made you aware of them. But you have started down the path by simply acknowledging the existence! :)

I believe because it is not the normal everyday way we travel and anything that requires us to change our normal routine causes a little anxiety.

I believe it is because we are not in control. The pilot is in charge and we can't see him or look over his shoulder and be a back seat driver. The opposite of faith is fear and I think being flying up in the air in a multi thousand pound vehicle creates fear in us.
