Experts say "popping" kids can do more harm than good. A new study of more than 2,500 toddlers from low-income families found that spanking may have detrimental effects on behavior and mental development. The study found that children who were spanked as 1-year-olds tended to behave more aggressively at age 2, and did not perform as well as other children on a test measuring thinking skills at age 3. The new study focused on children from low-income families because prior research suggested that spanking is more common among them. In addition the study found that parents who spank are more likely to be younger, less educated, single, and/or depressed and stressed. Spanking is most commonly used among parents who were spanked themselves, who live in the South, and/or who identify themselves as conservative Christians. What do you think? Weigh in.

Spanking is good!!0 pointsTashaB wrote 974 Days Ago (neutral) 0I was spanked as a child almost everyday and I think I came out perfectly fine!!! :)0 pointsBottleyc wrote 974 Days Ago (neutral) 0I just thought of something else on this topic. I noticed that your statistics were taken on low income children. Maybe there problems come from being poor and in poverty level environments rather than getting spanked....0 pointsAnonymous wrote 974 Days Ago (neutral) 0I believe that spanking is necessary along with TEACHING. You have teach them why you are showing them discipline. You must have love in the whipping and yes I said whipping! Now I don't agree with spanking for every little reason. Children do need room to grow and learn and to make mistakes.0 pointsCentral_Jaguar wrote 974 Days Ago (neutral) 0I believe in spanking children. I rarely spank my kids, but I will if the situation calls for it. I believe that spanking should be the last resort. I also agree there is a difference between spanking and beating. I also believe that spanking is not for every little thing that a child does. I believe once a child is taught and brought up the right way, you rarely need to spank them. You should be able to just give your child that look and they know what's up.0 points
