Dignity is grace. It is facing life in honesty and responsibly and not being selfish. IT is a quiet strength. It is carrying yourself in honor and courage in the face of pressure and outside influence.
Pride...can be two things. It can be harmful and it can be an asset. You can have enough pride in yourself to want to do well and it is a force that drives you to do your best....
OR it can be a false pride that makes you selfish and demanding thinking the world owes you or you will be embarrassed.
Pride can be a big ego...it can be controlling and it can be mean.
Like all things in life...there are pros and cons on everything. You have to focus on the good side of things and reject the negative.
Webster's Online definitions:
Pride
1. A feeling of self-respect and personal worth.
2. Satisfaction with your (or another's) achievements; "he takes pride in his son's success".
3. The trait of being spurred on by a dislike of falling below your standards.
5. Unreasonable and inordinate self-esteem (personified as one of the deadly sins).
Dignity
1. The quality of being worthy of esteem or respect: "it was beneath his dignity to cheat"; "showed his true dignity when under pressure".
2. Formality in bearing and appearance: "he behaved with great dignity".
3. High office or rank or station: "he respected the dignity of the emissaries".
Pride can be a complement to dignity or viceversa, but pride is also a deadly sin, which dignity will never ever be.
