A Good God Morning to You Children of the Most High God!

 

I like doing word studies - this method of Bible study often gives me new insights on scriptures that I know and love to read!  My most recent word study was on the word "Happy"!  Most people are in hot pursuit of being happy and I suppose that 'Happy" takes on different meanings for different people.  So I decided to find out who was considered to be "happy" as referenced in the Bible.  So, I'll just share with you a few of the scriptures I found relating to "Happy People!"

 

First, I found that "Happy" in the Hebrew language is "Esher" which means blessed; happiness; or prosperity.  "Happy" in the Greek language is "Makarios or Makar" which means supremely blessed; fortunate or well-off....note that "happy" in the Greek is often translated as "blessed."  For today, I'll just reference scriptures related to the Hebrew "Esher" (these scriptures were taken from the New King James Translation):

Deuteronomy 33:29 - "Happy are you, O Israel!  Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord, the shield of your help and the sword of your majesty..."

 

I Kings 10:8/II Chronicles 9:7 - "Happy are your men and happy are these your servants, who stand continually before you and hear your wisdom." [This was what the Queen of Sheba had to say after she recognized his wisdom and saw all of his riches.]

 

Job 5:17 - "Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects, therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty."

 

Psalm 127:4-5a - Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one's youth.  Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them..."

 

Psalm 128:2 - When you eat the labor of your hands, you shall be happy, and it shall be well with you.

 

Psalm 144:15 - Happy are the people who are in such a state:  Happy are the people whose God is the LORD.

 

Psalm 146:5 - Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God.

 

Proverbs 3:13 - Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding.

 

 

Proverbs 3:18 - She [wisdom] is atree of life to those who take hold of her, and happy are all who retain her [wisdom].

 

Proverbs 14:21b - ...But he who has mercy on the poor, happy is he.

 

Proverbs 16:20 - He who heeds the word wisely will find good, and whoever trusts in the Lord, happy is he.

 

Proverbs 28:14a - Happy is the man who is always reverent...

 

Proverbs 29:18 - Where there is no revelation [vision], the people cast off restraint [perish]; But happy is he who keeps the law.

Looking at these scriptures, we realize that true happiness is only found in the things of God.   So, if we truly want to be "Happy" let's seek first the kingdom of God and all His righteousness; for God, not man, holds the key to true happiness!
